Population 4300

Buellton is one of five small towns nestled in the fertile, green countryside of the Santa Ynes Valley. Buellton is conveniently located north on Highway 101. Buellton is famous because of one restaurant, Anderson’s Split Pea, famous for it’s split pea soup.  Founded  by Rufus Buell, a Yankee pioneer, he purchased a land grant of over 10,000 acres from one of the California families. His ranch had its headquarters near the modern town of Buellton. Buell built a ranch store, a blacksmith shop and a school. When it came time to name the town Buellton seemed right.

Miles of open land surrounded  the town, which was populated originally by retirees when first built. The crime rate in Buellton and the Valley is very low. In 2000, the state counted 1,516 residential units, there are many land and ranch properties to purchase in this wonderful countryside. A few homes look down on the city, while most of the homes are built on flat and rolling hills. Buelton is one of the fasted growing areas in the Santa Barbara County.
